Koyo gave him a strange look as he saw a grin that leaked upon the mechanic’s face. He poured himself a glass before replying.

“This might be something then. I’ll play along for now,” he said, taking a seat and placing it behind Spanner’s. He peers over the desktop as he waited for the man to start, the glass on his hand.

Spanner nods, shifts his seat slightly to give Koyo some room to view the screen, where text had started to appear. Clicking through them slowly enough to allow Koyo to read, Spanner reviews the events that had so far taken place in the game.

They weren’t very promising.

“We’re going through the gallery,” Spanner comments.

“Ev…e?”

Koyo repeated, as he walked over and glanced over the monitor screen. “You like playing strange games like this?” he asked, not particularly against the idea.

Spanner pulls up a chair and grins, a little uncharacteristically. The lack of sugar was getting to him, perhaps.

“I saw it floating around. Doesn’t seem too bad, but then, I hardly ever play games like these.”

Koyo looked around, familiarizing himself with the atmosphere. He sneezes a bit; his body chilled with the sudden change of temperature. “Please,” he asks Spanner. His throat was getting dry.

“I don’t mind. What game is it?” 

“It’s on the desktop,” Spanner calls out from the kitchen nook, where he was fetching them a pitcher of iced tea and two tall glasses. He grabs a bag of chips, too, and walks back to where Koyo stood, a little away from the desktop.

“It’s called ‘Ib’.”

Koyo walks over inside, his skin catching the cold temperature of the room. “I do, occasionally,” he replies, a bit surprised that Spanner would ask such a thing.

He hadn’t imagined for the mechanic to have time for games. ‘He’s a kid after all,’ Koyo confirms while eying the candy bag on Spanner’s hand. “Why’d you ask?”

“Well, I recently downloaded a new game, and I wanted to play it with someone around, just in case.”

Spanner closes the door behind Koyo, effectively trapping the cool air inside. He shakes his candy bag slightly, and moves to disappear over to the kitchen nook.

“Something cold to drink?”

Keeping that sudden urge to laugh to himself, Spanner continues to lead the way back to his lab, occasionally offering Koyo (and some understandably surprised passers-by) some candy.

“I haven’t finished restructuring Mosca, though, so is it alright if you don’t get to fight them this time?”

Having nothing to do about it, Koyo pouts, decelerating his walking pace. He decided to shrug it off and pay the man no attention.

“It’s fine. I’m not in the mood anyway,” he answered back, the sun still getting on his nerves.

Spanner nods his reply, leading the way until they arrived at his work shop again, now down half his original stock of sugar-free candy. He smiles as he opens the door, letting the cool air out but briefly, as he waited for Koyo to step in.

“Do you play video games, Koyo-kun?”

Irked at the man’s humming, Koyo inches closer beside Spanner and gave him a glare, “Hey, don’t ignore me!” 

‘He’s making fun of me again!’ he thought, looking away and then refusing at the offer, “No, thanks!”

“What are you smiling on about?” he demanded an explanation as he followed the man from behind. They walked for a while; Koyo was clueless on how far the lab was from here, “Is it far?”

The mechanic hums in answer to Koyo’s question. Amused, Spanner spares Koyo a glance over his shoulder.

“We’ve been there before, it’s only a little way’s away. Candy?” he offered, enjoying the twist of expressions on the boy’s face.
